Tourism Pop Quiz Success: TAPS Student Triumphs with 9th Place in Santiago City Competition

Keiresha Fidelis Andres, a STEM 11 student, brought pride and honor to the school by placing Top 9 in the Santiago City Tourism Pop Quiz Bee, organized by the Local Government Unit of Santiago City-CICATO, held on September 21, 2024, at Robinson’s Place Santiago.

Competing against 30 senior high school students from both public and private schools in the city, Keiresha showcased her knowledge of local culture, history, and tourism.

Keiresha's achievement is a milestone for TAPS, marking the school’s first time participating in the Tourism Pop Quiz annual competition, now in its sixth year.

For qualifying in the Top 9 finalists, Keiresha will receive a P3,000 cash prize from the LGU Santiago City-CICATO, in recognition of her achievement.

Joining Keiresha in the competition was Crissa Joy Pulangco, a Grade 12 STEM student.

Santiago City Tourism Pop Quiz aims to promote awareness and appreciation of the city's rich cultural heritage and attractions among SHS students. Furthermore, the said quiz bee has six rounds: Elimination, Top 16, Top 8, Top 4, Winner vs. Winner, and Loser Vs. Loser, with the topics on Food Tourism, Festival Tourism, Philippine Tourism, and World Tourism.

"I felt really nervous because this was the first time TAPS joined this type of quiz and I'm one of the first participants that represented TAPS. So of course I was really nervous if I was going to do well or not" Keiresha said in an interview.

"Of course, I genuinely like this type of topics so I'd love to represent the school once again if I'm given the opportunity." Keiresha added.

"We were nervous since it's our first time. We were also shocked because with limited preparations, Keiresha was able to still top in the quiz bee competition" said Ms. Jessa Lilagan, their coach for this quiz bee event.

With Keiresha's impressive performance and Crissa Joy's participation, TAPS has successfully made its mark in the Santiago City Tourism Quiz Bee. This achievement not only highlights the school's commitment to academic excellence but also demonstrates the students' dedication to learning about their local heritage.

As TAPS continues to participate in such competitions, it is expected to inspire more students, explore their passions, and represent the school with pride.
